for what you think is my Sunday best
not knowing ...
I put those credit cards to the test
I have on a Hat that cost me 200.00
so I'll be cute...
in church
when I dance, move
...and holler!
This dress fits me to a 'T'
when I walk down that long church aisle they
will notice me
I need to be up front to be seen
so here...I'll sit
right behind the 'Queens'
(the 'mothers')
I have on 4 inch heel 'Pumps'
that make people notice
...my big round rump
The purse is matching...
perfectly
...that's never an issue
when the choir sings and...
I go in it for tissues
because...
I am perfect today
Member man will wink at me
thinking I am divine...
Sistah So-So will turn up her nose
and sniff...
and think...
and she smells fine
too
I am perfect today

I am on my way
for you to see
the real me...Lord

on this third Sunday

because nobody can see
what I can't buy
as I try and hide
I cover up the pain I feel
and strut in those 4 inch heels
It's painful to see the real me
it's like looking at a withered hand
or dead tree
It mirrors my broken heart...
Lord, this is where I need you to start
I came this Sunday
looking perfect
but trying to hide me from you...
not knowing
you can see
what you would clearly reject
I hide my pain, and distress
by putting on this pretty silky pink dress
I need to uncover
this 'HOT' mess

am perfect today
for you
my Lord
to break me
and mend me
baptize me
then mold me
...now hold me
then lead me
my Hallelujah praise is for real...now
mascara is running
i have kicked off my pumps
lowering my rump
my 200.00
hat
flew off...
this scream is different
it's from my gut i now holler
i am consumed...
and speaking with a different tongue
that pink silky dress is laying in the
aisle
slain...in the spirit
with a new creature in it
covered by a white sheet
from an old church
Mother...
who smiles
and says...I AM(God)
